METU English Proficiency Exam - General Information

1. What is METU-EPE like?
METU-EPE is an exam which is administered in two sessions. The morning session and the afternoon session comprise one exam.

 

2. What is the content of the exam? What is it's duration? What is the scoring like?
The morning session of the exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions in 2 sections: Listening Comprehension (30 questions / 30 pts.) and Reading Comprehension (30 questions / 30 pts.). The duration of this session is 120 minutes.

 

The afternoon session of the exam consists of two sections: Language Use (20 pts.) and Note-Taking & Writing (20 pts.). The duration of this session is approximately 120 minutes.

 

The total score of the exam is 100.

 

3. What rules govern METU-EPE?
a.
Test takers are required to have with them an official ID issued by METU (or a comparable document) , a soft pencil, a ball point pen and an eraser.

 

b. Test takers are not permitted to have with them

  • bags of any kind (handbags, backpacks, carrier bags, etc.) in the exam halls
  • electronic devices during test sessions or breaks. Electronic devices include but are not limited to beepers, pagers, radios, telephones or cellular (mobile) phones, translators, stopwatches, watch alarms (including those with flashing lights or alarm sounds), personal data assistants (PDAs), and any other electronic or photographic devices of any kind
  • testing aids during test sessions or breaks. Testing aids include but are not limited to books, pamphlets, notes, dictionaries, thesauri or potential aids of any kind.

 

In the event of a reported violation of any of the rules above, the test taker's test score will be cancelled.

 

c. Test takers have to be in their exam hall 30 minutes before each session of  the exam starts.  Please be informed that test takers will not be admitted to their exam hall after the exam starts because both the morning and afternoon sessions start with LISTENING components.

 

Examinees who are late for either session can be admitted to their exam hall once the LISTENING component is completed and doors are opened. 

 

d. Test takers must fully comply with the proctors' directions during the exam.

 

e. Disciplinary/legal action will be taken against those who attempt to impersonate the rightful test takers or who attempt to cheat, and the exam results of such candidates will be considered invalid.

 

4. How are the results of METU-EPE announced?
The exam results are be announced at http://www.ydyom.metu.edu.tr/prf/anasayfa.htm and at the School of Foreign Languages, D Building.
