Courses Open to the Public

The School of Foreign Languages at Middle East Technical University (METU) offers a wide range of language courses to participants from outside the university. Designed to address different proficiency levels, learning needs, and academic or professional goals, these programs aim to help participants improve their English language skills, develop the language proficiency required for academic purposes, and prepare for international language examinations.

The programs include General English courses at various levels, from beginner to advanced, an Intensive General English Program offered on weekdays, and an Intensive Academic English Certificate Program. General English courses are available on weekday evenings and at weekends, while the intensive programs provide a more comprehensive and concentrated learning experience.

For participants preparing for international language examinations, the School offers TOEFL iBT and IELTS preparation courses, as well as Pre-TOEFL and Pre-IELTS programs for those who wish to prepare for these examinations but need to strengthen their general English proficiency first. These courses focus on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, while also helping participants acquire the language proficiency required for the respective examinations.

In addition, shorter and more specialized courses are offered to address specific learning objectives. These include Academic Speaking and Presentation Skills, Speaking Clubs, YDS preparation courses, and preparation courses for the METU English Proficiency Exam (EPE).

Customized Language Training Programs for Institutions

In addition to courses open to the public, the School of Foreign Languages offers customized language training programs for public institutions, private organizations, and other entities through agreements and institutional protocols. These programs are designed to address the specific training objectives, staff profiles, and language learning needs of each institution. Course content, duration, and delivery formats are tailored to the requirements of the participating organizations. Depending on institutional needs, training can be provided either face-to-face or online.

To accommodate participants' different schedules and preferences, courses are delivered both face-to-face on the METU campus and online. Instruction is provided by experienced instructors with academic qualifications in language education, working in the Department of Basic English and the Department of Modern Languages at the School of Foreign Languages.
