A positive development within the period between 1970-1980 was the construction of a new, additional building for the English Language Preparatory School. When the Rector of the University, Prof. Tarık Somer, asked Giray Atatür whether he would like to have an additional building, the newly appointed Director of the School started work in planning a building in which there would be

40 – 45 offices for instructors, something which had never been thought of by the School's founders,

32 classrooms, and

2 auditoriums suitable for conducting ESP conferences and showing 8 mm. films.

Thus, E Building was born. However, not accustomed to being accommodated in offices since set-up, the instructors employed at the English Language Preparatory School refused to make use of the offices despite the insistence of the director.
